Prof Sanjeev Jain graduated in medical studies from Delhi University, and trained as a psychiatrist at NIMHANS, Bangalore, where he is on the faculty. He researches the genetic and molecular basis of psychiatric disease, and leads a molecular genetics laboratory. His clinical research focuses on causes and outcomes of severe mental illness, and neuro-degenerative disorders. He has been a member of the Committee, appointed by the Ministry of Health, to draft a document on the Mental Health Policy for India. He also researches the history of psychiatric services in the sub-continent, and works with many governmental agencies and NGOs to improve services for the marginalized.
Dr Meera is Senior Scientific Officer in the Molecular genetics Laboratory where she leads projects
on molecular genetics of neuropsychiatric illness. Genetic epidemiology of triplet repeat disorders
and pharmacogenetics of psychiatric diseases along with understanding biological phenomenon
such as telomere length and mitochondrial copy number maintenance in the context of
neuropsychiatric illness has been an important focus of the laboratory. She has a special interest in
the role of epigenetics in mental health particularly alcohol addiction. She has also initiated genetic
testing of patient samples for several neurological disorders such as spinocerebellar ataxia,
Huntington’s disease, spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy .
Dr Biju Viswanath trained as Psychiatrist in NIMHANS and currently pursuing Phd and working as a Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in NIMHANS, Bangalore.
His interest in cellular models for psychiatric disorders.
Dr. Reeteka Sud is the Coordinator for the core lab facility at ADBS, NIMHANS. Her research interests include: (1) investigating mechanisms common across neurodegenerative diseases, and (2) exploring associations between neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
